Development success: A patented atraumatic tip for TURP

In 2016, Corinth MedTech Inc. and MedRes collaborated to develop the first-of-its-kind, single-use resectoscope for Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP) as part of the Veloxion Platform.

The Veloxion System, featuring Velo360 Technology, is for treating the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition affecting millions worldwide. We had the opportunity to act as a contract developer for the handheld disposable resectoscope and the fluid management system from the start of the project until the clinical study stage. Included in this project’s deliverables was the development of a patented atraumatic tip to provide access to the prostate through the urethra.

This patented tip allows for single insertion so once in, the physician can resect freely without the need to introduce or swap additional devices as is typical with the current reusable devices. MedRes design team including senior designer Nóra Rédly worked in conjunction with Corinth MedTech Inc. to develop the internal structure that provides the rigidity and expandability of the atraumatic tip. Furthermore, the in-house molding capacity helped Corinth MedTech Inc. to establish the initial manufacturing process of this breakthrough design.
