MedRes International is looking for a Principal/Expert Laser Engineer to join our team in our Carlsbad, California, office. The Laser Engineer is involved in developing new laser-based technologies for medical devices, including welding, cutting, ablation, and marking processes, implementing and qualifying production equipment and methods, and working with cross- functional team of customers, technicians, quality engineers and project managers.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Design, develop, and optimize laser welding, cutting, ablation, and marking processes for medical device manufacturing.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to engineers, technicians, and other team members involved in laser-related projects.
- Drive projects to successful completion, adhering to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Identify and resolve technical issues related to laser processes and equipment.
- Develop solutions for product design and design for manufacturability, incorporating laser technology.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design history files, test reports, and manufacturing procedures.
- Ensure that all laser-related activities comply with relevant medical device regulations and standards.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
- Maintain and promote a safe working environment for all team members involved in laser operations
- Provide training to other engineers and technicians on laser technology and processes
- Work with laser equipment vendors to select, evaluate, and procure equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (e.g., electrical, optical, mechanical, physics) or a related field.
- 10-year minimum work experience in laser technology, medical device manufacturing, and/or related fields.
- Strong understanding of laser physics, optics, and laser systems.
- Proficient in laser process development, design, and optimization.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software, simulation tools, and other relevant software.
- Experience in managing projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
- Knowledge of design and process FMEA, process validation, and process control.
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability and lean methodology.
- Lean Six Sigma training preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with medical device regulations and standards.
Compensation:
The estimated annual salary range for a new hire in this position is $170,000 to $200,000 depending on background and experience.
